In Flames first came about in 1990 when Jesper decided to leave his band at the time "Ceremonial Oath" that he was in with Anders Friden, and Anders Iwers. Jesper wanted to make music in a different direction, and he teamed up with Johan Larsson and Glenn Ljungström to form In Flames. This type of music they decided to make could be called melodic black or death metal. It was very simular to Dark Tranquillity's style of play, and vocals. They made a demo, and sent it off to Wrong Again records to get a record deal, and luckily they did. They would then realease the first album Lunar Strain. The band did have some line up problems and they were always changing members, but eventually they would realese a mini cd entitled "Subterranean." The band would grow sick of in and out members so they asked Anders & Bjorn to join the band...they did, and for once they had a solid line up.
They then recorded "The Jester Race." This album finally got them some major attention, and they would then go on tour with some major bands such as Samael to name just one. Soon there after they recorded "Whoracle." Shortly after the recording Johan & Glenn quit the band. However luckily enough they found new members to replace them. Once again In Flames was going strong. They begin to tour again, and this time they toured the world with Dimmu Borgir. When they return new member Niklas decides to leave the band. Bjorn then jumps to guitar, and new member Daniel is brought in to play drums.
Then In Flames makes what might just be there most succesful album to date when they realease "Colony." Colony was very succesful, and really started raising some eye brows here and there. Once again they would tear it up touring the planet, and receive a great response from all the shows. Next in 2000 they realese the album "Clayman." Clayman is very simular to the "Colony" album, and once again they tour the planet. After touring for most of the year the members take a well deserved rest. They do a few more shows in 2001, mostly in Europe though. This summer they will be playing a bunch of festivals in Europe, and also they will be realeasing a live album sometime during the summer.
